L-Carnosine

(2S)-2-[(3-aminopropanoyl)amino]-3-(1H-imidazol-5-yl)propanoic acid

L-Carnosine is a naturally occurring dipeptide of beta-alanine and L-histidine, chemically (2S)-2-[(3-aminopropanoyl)amino]-3-(1H-imidazol-5-yl)propanoic acid (CAS 305-84-0, C9H14N4O3, MW 226.23). It occurs in skeletal muscle and is supplied here as the synthetic grade rather than an animal extract, giving a vegan material. It is a crystalline powder standardized to a typical assay of at least 98%. It differs from its methylated analogue anserine, offered as a separate family, which carries an additional methyl group on the imidazole ring. We manufacture it in powder, capsule and tablet formats.
