L-Threonine is the free-form of the essential amino acid, chemically (2S,3R)-2-amino-3-hydroxybutanoic acid (CAS 72-19-5, C4H9NO3, MW 119.12), carrying two stereocentres and a hydroxyl-bearing side chain. It is produced by microbial fermentation and supplied as a crystalline powder standardized to a typical assay of at least 98.5%, and is a common constituent of full-spectrum essential-amino-acid profiles.
