L-Tryptophan

(2S)-2-amino-3-(1H-indol-3-yl)propanoic acid

L-Tryptophan is the free-form of the aromatic essential amino acid, chemically (2S)-2-amino-3-(1H-indol-3-yl)propanoic acid (CAS 73-22-3, C11H12N2O2, MW 204.23), carrying an indole side chain. It is the metabolic precursor to 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP), which is offered as a separate family in this catalogue as a Griffonia-derived extract rather than the intact amino acid. It is produced by microbial fermentation and supplied as a crystalline powder standardized to a typical assay of at least 98.5%. We manufacture it in powder, capsule and tablet formats.
