(+)-Catechin is the monomeric flavan-3-ol (2R,3S)-2-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-3,4-dihydro-2H-chromene-3,5,7-triol (CAS 154-23-4; C15H14O6, molecular weight 290.27). It is obtained from botanical sources such as tea (Camellia sinensis) or acacia and standardised by HPLC. It is the 2,3-trans flavan-3-ol, the configurational epimer of (-)-epicatechin, with which it shares the formula C15H14O6 and molecular weight 290.27, differing only in the configuration at the C3 centre. It is supplied as an off-white crystalline powder. We manufacture it in capsules, tablets and powders.
