L-Ergothioneine is a sulfur-containing amino-acid betaine, (2S)-3-(2-thioxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-imidazol-4-yl)-2-(trimethylazaniumyl)propanoate (CAS 497-30-3; C9H15N3O2S, molecular weight 229.30), a thione (2-mercaptohistidine betaine) derivative of histidine. The commercial grade is produced by fermentation and supplied as an HPLC-assayed white crystalline powder. We manufacture it in capsules, tablets and powders.
