N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine (NAC)

(2R)-2-acetamido-3-sulfanylpropanoic acid

N-Acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) is the N-acetyl derivative of the amino acid L-cysteine, (2R)-2-acetamido-3-sulfanylpropanoic acid (CAS 616-91-1; C5H9NO3S, molecular weight 163.19). It is produced by acetylating the amino group of L-cysteine, which yields a crystalline, more stable thiol than free cysteine, and is supplied at typically 99% or higher by assay. It is a white crystalline powder bearing a free sulfhydryl group. We manufacture it in capsules, tablets and powders.
