Punicalagins are the major ellagitannins of pomegranate, large polyphenols of formula C48H28O30 (CAS 65995-63-3; molecular weight 1084.72) supplied as a mixture of the alpha and beta anomers. The ingredient is a pomegranate (Punica granatum) extract standardised to total punicalagins, commonly 30-40% by HPLC. As high-molecular-weight ellagitannins they are structurally far larger than the small dilactone ellagic acid they hydrolyse to. They are supplied as a tan to brown powder. We manufacture them in capsules, tablets and powders.
