Theaflavins (Black Tea)

Theaflavin (benzotropolone-type black-tea polyphenol)

Theaflavins are the benzotropolone polyphenols formed when tea flavan-3-ols condense during the oxidation of black tea; the marker species, theaflavin (CAS 4670-05-7; C29H24O12, molecular weight 564.49), defines the group. The commercial ingredient is a black-tea (Camellia sinensis) extract standardised to total theaflavins, commonly 20-80%, and is a defined mixture of theaflavin together with its mono- and di-gallate homologues. It is supplied as a reddish-brown powder. We manufacture it in capsules, tablets and powders.
