L-Tyrosine

L-Tyrosine

(2S)-2-amino-3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)propanoic acid

L-Tyrosine is the free-base form of the aromatic amino acid tyrosine, chemically (2S)-2-amino-3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)propanoic acid (CAS 60-18-4, EC 200-460-4; C9H11NO3, MW 181.19). It is produced by microbial fermentation and supplied as a free-form crystalline powder standardized to typically >=98.5% assay against USP and Ph.Eur. specifications. Unlike the family's N-acetyl-L-tyrosine, it carries an unmodified alpha-amino group rather than an acetamido substituent, which gives it the higher tyrosine content per unit mass but comparatively limited aqueous solubility. We manufacture this raw material into capsule, tablet and powder formats.
