Potassium Iodide

Potassium iodide

Potassium iodide is the inorganic potassium salt of hydroiodic acid (KI, CAS 7681-11-0), in which iodine is present in its reduced iodide (I-) state. It is manufactured by reacting iodine with potassium hydroxide or carbonate and crystallized as a white crystalline solid that is freely soluble in water. Carrying roughly 76% elemental iodine by weight, it is more concentrated than the family's iodate salts (potassium iodate ~59%, calcium iodate ~65%) but lower than the lighter-cation sodium iodide (~85%), and unlike the oxidized iodates it supplies iodine in reduced form. We manufacture it as capsules, tablets, powders and liquid drops.
