Riboflavin is the parent vitamer of vitamin B2, chemically 7,8-dimethyl-10-ribityl-benzo[g]pteridine-2,4-dione, with the molecular formula C17H20N4O6 and a molecular weight of 376.36 (CAS 83-88-5, EC 201-507-1). It is manufactured chiefly by microbial fermentation, with chemical synthesis also available, and is supplied to USP/EP/FCC grade at not less than 98% assay. Unlike the family's water-soluble phosphate salt, this material is the free, non-phosphorylated base; carrying neither a phosphate group nor a sodium counter-ion, it holds a higher proportion of riboflavin per unit mass than the heavier riboflavin-5'-phosphate sodium (376.36 against 478.33). It is presented as a fine yellow-orange crystalline powder. We manufacture it in capsule, tablet, powder, gummy and liquid formats.
