Marine Algae Calcium (Aquamin)

Calcium carbonate (calcified red algae, Lithothamnion)

Marine algae calcium is calcium carbonate laid down in the calcified skeletons of red marine algae of the genus Lithothamnion (CaCO3, CAS 471-34-1), harvested and milled as a standardized algal multimineral such as Aquamin. Because it is a plant-source material it is vegan, unlike the animal-derived hydroxyapatite, while its porous algal structure and accompanying trace minerals set it apart from mined mineral carbonate. It carries roughly 32% elemental calcium, below refined limestone carbonate but above the organic-acid salts. It is supplied as an off-white to pale powder. We manufacture it in capsules, tablets and powders.
