Copper Sulfate

Copper(II) sulfate, anhydrous

Copper sulfate is the inorganic copper(II) sulfate salt, supplied in the anhydrous form (CAS 7758-98-7, formula CuSO4, molecular weight 159.61); the hydrated pentahydrate is also traded under CAS 7758-99-8. It is derived from mineral copper sources and supplied as a food-grade inorganic salt carrying about 40% elemental copper on the anhydrous basis. As a simple water-soluble inorganic salt it differs from the organic-acid salts copper gluconate and copper citrate and from the copper bisglycinate chelate, and it sits well above copper gluconate but below copper oxide in elemental copper density. It is supplied as a powder and manufactured into tablets, capsules, powders and liquids.
