Methylcobalamin (CAS 13422-55-4) is a naturally occurring coenzyme form of vitamin B12 in which a methyl group replaces the cyanide ligand on the central cobalt atom of the corrin ring (formula C63H91CoN13O14P, molecular weight 1344.4). Like the other cobalamins in the family it is produced by microbial fermentation. It is set apart from cyanocobalamin by its methyl axial ligand and from adenosylcobalamin by carrying that compact methyl group in place of the bulky 5'-deoxyadenosyl group, which gives it the lowest molecular weight of the four forms; as a coenzyme cobalamin it is light-sensitive and requires protection from light through processing and packaging. It is supplied as a crystalline powder, typically as a standardized trituration, and we manufacture it in capsules, tablets, powders, liquids and gummies.
