Taurine

2-Aminoethanesulfonic acid

Taurine is a sulfur-containing amino sulfonic acid, chemically 2-aminoethanesulfonic acid (CAS 107-35-7, EC 203-483-8), with the molecular formula C2H7NO3S and a molecular weight of 125.15. It is produced by chemical synthesis to USP/FCC grade at a typical assay of at least 98.5 percent, rather than by fermentation or extraction from animal tissue. Unlike ingredient families offered as a range of salts, esters or chelates, taurine is supplied as a single defined free-acid compound rather than as a derivative series. Physically it is a zwitterionic white crystalline powder that is freely soluble in water. We manufacture it in powder, capsule, tablet and liquid dosage formats.
