EGb 761 is a branded, defined-specification dried leaf extract of ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba, the maidenhair tree) originating with Dr. Willmar Schwabe and also marketed as Tanakan, Tebonin and Rokan. It is standardized to 22-27% flavone glycosides and 5-7% terpene lactones with ginkgolic acids under 5 ppm, which distinguishes it from the fixed-point 24/6 and 27/7 grades that state single marker values rather than these ranges. Like the other extracts in the family it is a whole-extract concentrate rather than the raw leaf powder or an isolated trilactone. The physical form is a fine powder. It is manufactured in capsule, tablet, softgel and liquid dosage formats.
