Molecular Iodine (I2)

Molecular iodine is elemental diatomic iodine (I2, CAS 7553-56-2), the zerovalent elemental form rather than a salt, supplied as USP resublimed grade. It is produced by purification and resublimation of iodine into lustrous blue-black crystalline scales, and at 100% iodine it is the most concentrated material in the family, carrying no counter-ion or oxidized iodate group. Unlike the freely water-soluble iodide salts, elemental iodine is only slightly soluble in water and is the molecular-iodine component of Lugol's-type solutions, where it is typically combined with an iodide. We manufacture it as tablets, capsules and liquid preparations.
