Riboflavin (Vitamin B2)

Riboflavin-5'-Phosphate Sodium

sodium [(2R,3S,4S)-5-(7,8-dimethyl-2,4-dioxobenzo[g]pteridin-10-yl)-2,3,4-trihydroxypentyl] hydrogen phosphate

Riboflavin-5'-phosphate sodium is the phosphorylated coenzyme form of vitamin B2, also known as flavin mononucleotide (FMN), supplied as its monosodium salt (CAS 130-40-5, EC 204-988-6, C17H20N4NaO9P, molecular weight 478.33). It is manufactured by phosphorylation of riboflavin and standardized to USP/EP grade, assayed on the anhydrous basis. Where the parent riboflavin is a free crystalline base, this form is the water-soluble phosphate ester bearing a sodium counter-ion; the added phosphate and sodium raise its molecular weight to 478.33, so it carries a lower proportion of riboflavin per unit mass than the parent (376.36). It is presented as a fine water-soluble powder and is manufactured in capsule, tablet and powder formats.
