Menatetrenone (Vitamin K2 MK-4)

2-Methyl-3-[(2E,6E,10E)-3,7,11,15-tetramethylhexadeca-2,6,10,14-tetraenyl]naphthalene-1,4-dione

Menatetrenone (CAS 863-61-6) is the short-chain vitamin K2 homolog menaquinone-4, a 2-methyl-1,4-naphthoquinone whose side chain is a fully unsaturated four-unit all-trans isoprenoid (tetraene). It is produced by chemical synthesis for supplement and pharmaceutical use and assayed by HPLC as all-trans MK-4. Within the K2 group it carries a shorter four-isoprene tail than MK-7, giving a lower molecular weight of 444.6 g/mol against 649.0 for MK-7, and it differs from K1 in having a polyunsaturated menaquinone chain rather than the single-double-bond phytyl chain of phytonadione. It is a fat-soluble material handled in oil-based and dry systems. We manufacture it into softgels, capsules, tablets and liquids.
