Anserine

(2S)-2-[(3-aminopropanoyl)amino]-3-(1-methyl-1H-imidazol-5-yl)propanoic acid

Anserine is a methylated analogue of carnosine, the dipeptide of beta-alanine and 1-methyl-L-histidine, chemically (2S)-2-[(3-aminopropanoyl)amino]-3-(1-methyl-1H-imidazol-5-yl)propanoic acid (CAS 584-85-0, C10H16N4O3, MW 240.26). It occurs naturally in the skeletal muscle of fish and birds and is supplied here as a defined dipeptide. It differs from carnosine, offered as a separate family, by the methyl group on the imidazole ring, which adds one carbon and raises its molecular weight. It is supplied as a crystalline powder at a typical assay of at least 98%. We manufacture it in powder, capsule and tablet formats.
