Para-Aminobenzoic Acid (PABA)

4-Aminobenzoic acid

Para-Aminobenzoic Acid (CAS 150-13-0), chemically 4-aminobenzoic acid, is a benzene ring bearing amino and carboxyl groups in the para arrangement, with the molecular formula C7H7NO2 and a molecular weight of 137.14. It is produced by chemical synthesis as a mildly acidic crystalline powder and has historically been grouped with the B-complex as a factor associated with folate. This is the free-acid form; it differs from the potassium salt in the family by carrying a free carboxylic acid rather than a potassium carboxylate, which gives it a lower molecular weight and acidic rather than near-neutral solutions. We manufacture it in capsule, tablet and powder formats.
