d-beta-tocotrienol (CAS 490-23-3) is the beta homolog of the unsaturated tocotrienol series, a positional isomer of gamma-tocotrienol sharing the same molecular formula and weight (C28H42O2, 410.6 g/mol) but differing in the placement of the chromanol ring methyl groups. Like the other tocotrienols it carries a triple-unsaturated isoprenoid side chain, in contrast to the saturated phytyl tail of the tocopherols. It occurs only as a minor constituent of palm and rice-bran tocotrienols and is isolated as a component of the tocotrienol complex and assayed by HPLC; together with the alpha, gamma and delta tocotrienols and the four tocopherols it completes the eight-isomer vitamin E family. As a free-phenol, fat-soluble oil it is supplied for softgels, capsules and liquids.
