Pterostilbene

(E)-4-[2-(3,5-dimethoxyphenyl)ethenyl]phenol (3,5-dimethoxy-4'-hydroxystilbene)

Pterostilbene is a dimethyl-ether analogue of resveratrol, chemically 3,5-dimethoxy-4'-hydroxystilbene ((E)-4-[2-(3,5-dimethoxyphenyl)ethenyl]phenol; CAS 537-42-8; C16H16O3, MW 256.30). This grade is manufactured by chemical synthesis and purified to at least 99% by HPLC. It is a distinct stilbenoid rather than resveratrol itself: two of resveratrol's three phenolic hydroxyl groups are replaced by methoxy groups, which raises the molecular weight from 228.24 to 256.30 and leaves a single free hydroxyl, differentiating it from every free-resveratrol grade as well as from the glucoside polydatin. It is supplied as an off-white to pale-yellow crystalline powder. We manufacture it in capsules, tablets, softgels and powder blends.
