Liposomal Vitamin C

L-ascorbic acid encapsulated in phospholipid liposomes

Liposomal Vitamin C is a delivery form in which L-ascorbic acid (CAS 50-81-7, C6H8O6, MW 176.12) is encapsulated within phospholipid liposomes rather than presented as a free molecule or a salt. It is produced by enclosing ascorbic acid in phospholipid vesicles built from lecithin, commonly soy- or sunflower-derived, and is labeled in ascorbic acid equivalents; where a soy-derived lecithin is used it carries a soy allergen. The physical distinction from the rest of the family is the phospholipid carrier system surrounding the same ascorbic acid active, rather than any change to the vitamin C molecule itself. It is manufactured in liquid, capsule, softgel and powder formats.
