Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin)

Hydroxocobalamin

Hydroxocobalamin (alpha-(5,6-dimethylbenzimidazolyl)hydroxocobamide)

Hydroxocobalamin (CAS 13422-51-0) is a naturally occurring cobalamin in which a hydroxyl group occupies the upper axial position on the central cobalt atom of the corrin ring (formula C62H89CoN13O15P, molecular weight 1346.4). It is produced by microbial fermentation and, because the free hydroxo form is reactive, is commonly supplied as its acetate salt for stability. It differs from cyanocobalamin by carrying a hydroxo rather than a cyano ligand, and from the methyl and adenosyl coenzyme forms by its simple hydroxyl group; it is light-sensitive and handled under light protection. It is supplied as a crystalline powder, usually as a standardized trituration or as the acetate salt, and we manufacture it in capsules, tablets, liquids and powders.
