Cyanocobalamin

Cyanocobalamin (CAS 68-19-9) is a cobalamin, the complete corrin-ring vitamin B12 molecule in which the central cobalt atom carries a cyanide group as its upper axial ligand (formula C63H88CoN14O14P, molecular weight 1355.4). It is produced by bacterial fermentation, the fermented cobalamin being recovered and converted to the cyano form, which is the most stable and most widely traded B12 species. It differs from the coenzyme forms of the family, methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin, by carrying a cyano ligand rather than a methyl or 5'-deoxyadenosyl group, and unlike hydroxocobalamin it is not notably light-sensitive under normal handling, giving it the longest shelf life of the four. It is supplied as a fine crystalline powder, generally as a standardized trituration on a carrier because of the low use levels, and we manufacture it in capsules, tablets, powders, liquids and gummies.
