Choline Bitartrate

(2-Hydroxyethyl)trimethylammonium L-(+)-bitartrate

Choline Bitartrate (CAS 87-67-2) is the bitartrate (hydrogen L-tartrate) salt of the choline cation, with the molecular formula C9H19NO7 and a molecular weight of 253.25. It is produced synthetically to USP grade and is the most common and economical oral choline salt, carrying approximately 41% choline by mass. Its L-tartrate counter-ion gives a stable, free-flowing crystalline powder that is markedly less hygroscopic than choline chloride, which is its main handling advantage. It differs from choline chloride, which carries a chloride counter-ion and a higher choline load but is strongly hygroscopic, and from choline dihydrogen citrate, which carries a citrate counter-ion. We manufacture it in capsule, tablet and powder formats.
