Calcium Iodate

Calcium iodate (anhydrous)

Calcium iodate is the calcium salt of iodic acid (Ca(IO3)2, CAS 7789-80-2), presenting iodine in the oxidized +5 iodate state like the potassium and sodium iodates rather than the reduced iodide state. It is produced by reacting an iodate source with a calcium compound and isolated as a white crystalline powder that is only sparingly soluble in water, in contrast to the freely soluble iodide salts. Its divalent calcium cation gives it an elemental iodine load of about 65%, higher than potassium iodate (~59%) and sodium iodate (~64%) yet below the reduced iodides. We manufacture it as powders and tablets, and it is a customary iodine carrier for food-fortification and feed-premix use.
