Fermentation-derived trans-resveratrol is the same stilbenoid, (E)-3,5,4'-trihydroxystilbene (CAS 501-36-0; C14H12O3, MW 228.24), but produced by fermentation using a genetically engineered yeast rather than by plant extraction; for that reason it does not carry the non-GMO designation applied to the botanical grades. The isolated product is purified to at least 98% trans-resveratrol by HPLC, an assay comparable to the synthetic and knotweed grades while avoiding the plant matrix of the grape and knotweed extracts. It is molecularly identical to those forms and, like them, is the free stilbene aglycone, distinct from the glucoside polydatin and from the dimethyl-ether pterostilbene. It is supplied as an off-white crystalline powder. We manufacture it in capsules, softgels, tablets and powder blends.
