Hydroxyproline

Hydroxyproline (trans-4-Hydroxy-L-proline)

(2S,4R)-4-hydroxypyrrolidine-2-carboxylic acid

Hydroxyproline is a non-proteinogenic amino acid, chemically (2S,4R)-4-hydroxypyrrolidine-2-carboxylic acid (CAS 51-35-4, C5H9NO3, MW 131.13), the trans-4-hydroxylated derivative of proline and a characteristic constituent of collagen. This grade is produced by microbial fermentation, the vegan route, rather than by hydrolysis of animal collagen, and is supplied as a crystalline powder standardized to a typical assay of at least 98.5%. It differs from proline, offered as a separate family, by the hydroxyl group on the pyrrolidine ring and the additional oxygen in its formula. We manufacture it in powder, capsule and tablet formats.
