L-Aspartic Acid

(2S)-2-aminobutanedioic acid

L-Aspartic acid is the free-form L-enantiomer of aspartic acid, chemically (2S)-2-aminobutanedioic acid (CAS 56-84-8, C4H7NO4, MW 133.10), a non-essential dicarboxylic amino acid. It shares its molecular formula and molecular weight with its mirror image D-aspartic acid, which is offered as a separate family, but carries the opposite configuration at the alpha carbon and is the proteinogenic form. It is produced by enzymatic conversion and fermentation and supplied as a crystalline powder standardized to a typical assay of at least 98.5%. We manufacture it in powder, capsule and tablet formats.
