Ornithine Alpha-Ketoglutarate (OKG)

bis[(2S)-2,5-diaminopentanoic acid]; 2-oxopentanedioic acid (2:1)

Ornithine alpha-ketoglutarate (OKG) is a salt pairing two molecules of L-ornithine with one molecule of alpha-ketoglutaric acid (CAS 5144-42-3, anhydrous C15H30N4O9, MW 410.42). Its 2:1 ornithine-to-ketoglutarate stoichiometry and alpha-ketoglutarate counter-ion distinguish it from the 1:1 hydrochloride and L-aspartate salts and from the ornithine free base. The fermentation-derived ornithine is combined with alpha-ketoglutaric acid to form a defined crystalline salt, also available as a dihydrate. We manufacture it in powder, capsule and tablet formats.
