L-Phenylalanine

(2S)-2-amino-3-phenylpropanoic acid

L-Phenylalanine is the free-form single L-enantiomer of the aromatic essential amino acid, chemically (2S)-2-amino-3-phenylpropanoic acid (CAS 63-91-2, C9H11NO2, MW 165.19), the metabolic precursor to L-tyrosine. It is produced by microbial fermentation and supplied as a crystalline powder standardized to a typical assay of at least 98.5%. Unlike the racemic DL-phenylalanine grade it contains only the L-form, whereas the DL grade is an equal mixture of the D- and L-isomers sharing the same formula and molecular weight. We manufacture it in powder, capsule and tablet formats.
