WS-3 is N-ethyl-5-methyl-2-(propan-2-yl)cyclohexane-1-carboxamide, also called N-ethyl-p-menthane-3-carboxamide (CAS 39711-79-0, C13H25NO, MW 211.35), a synthetic menthane carboxamide cooling agent that acts on the TRPM8 receptor. It gives a strong, long-lasting cooling effect with far less minty aroma and bitterness than menthol, and a heavier, more persistent cool than the odourless WS-23. It is produced by chemical synthesis to a food grade of at least 98%. It is supplied as a white crystalline powder and manufactured into powders, liquids, gummies and chewable tablets.
