Zinc L-carnosine, known as polaprezinc, is a defined 1:1 chelate complex of zinc with the dipeptide L-carnosine (CAS 107667-60-7; C9H12N4O3Zn, MW 289.60), in which the zinc is coordinated within a polymeric carnosine framework. It carries about 23% elemental zinc, among the lower-load zinc forms in the range, near the picolinate and monomethionine and below the inorganic oxide and sulfate. The carnosine is synthetically produced, so the finished complex is suitable for vegan formulations. It is supplied as an off-white powder and manufactured into capsules, tablets and powder blends.
