Inositol Hexaphosphate (IP6 / Phytic Acid)

myo-Inositol hexakis(dihydrogen phosphate) (phytic acid)

Inositol Hexaphosphate, or phytic acid (free acid CAS 83-86-3), is the myo-inositol ring esterified with six phosphate groups, with the molecular formula C6H18O24P6 and a molecular weight of 660.04. It is the phosphorus-storage compound of seeds, cereal grains and rice bran, and is plant-derived. It is the fully phosphorylated counterpart of the free myo-inositol cyclitol, which gives it by far the highest molecular weight of the inositol family and a strongly acidic polyphosphate character that binds polyvalent metal ions. It is supplied as the free acid, commonly as a roughly 50% aqueous solution, or as sodium salts such as sodium phytate (CAS 34367-89-0). We manufacture it in powder, capsule and liquid formats.
