Citric Acid Monohydrate

2-Hydroxypropane-1,2,3-tricarboxylic acid monohydrate

Citric Acid Monohydrate is 2-hydroxypropane-1,2,3-tricarboxylic acid monohydrate (CAS 5949-29-1), the same tricarboxylic acid as the anhydrous grade but crystallized with one molecule of water, giving the formula C6H8O7.H2O and a molecular weight of 210.14. It is produced by microbial fermentation and purified to a USP/FCC/E330 grade of at least 99.5% on an anhydrous basis. It differs from the anhydrous form of the family by holding roughly 8.5% water of crystallization, which raises its molecular weight and lowers its acid content per unit mass, making it the grade of choice where the hydrated crystal habit aids handling. It is supplied as a crystalline solid. We manufacture it into powder, tablet, capsule, gummy and liquid dosage formats.
