Epicatechin is the monomeric flavan-3-ol (2R,3R)-2-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-3,4-dihydro-2H-chromene-3,5,7-triol, the (-)-epicatechin isomer (CAS 490-46-0; C15H14O6, molecular weight 290.27). It is obtained from cocoa (Theobroma cacao) or tea (Camellia sinensis) and standardised by HPLC. It is the 2,3-cis flavan-3-ol, the configurational epimer of (+)-catechin, with which it shares the formula C15H14O6. It is supplied as an off-white to pale-pink powder. We manufacture it in capsules, tablets and powders.
