Pantothenic Acid (Vitamin B5)

D-Panthenol (Dexpanthenol)

Dexpanthenol; (2R)-2,4-dihydroxy-N-(3-hydroxypropyl)-3,3-dimethylbutanamide

Dexpanthenol (CAS 81-13-0) is the alcohol analogue of pantothenic acid, in which the terminal carboxylic acid of the vitamin is replaced by a hydroxyl group, with the molecular formula C9H19NO4 and a molecular weight of 205.25. It is produced by chemical synthesis as the biologically relevant D-(R) enantiomer and supplied to USP/EP grade. Because it carries a neutral hydroxyl rather than an acid or a salt, it is a viscous, water-miscible liquid rather than a crystalline powder, which distinguishes it from D-pantothenic acid and the calcium and sodium pantothenate salts and makes it suited to liquid formulations. We manufacture it in liquid, capsule, softgel and powder formats.
