Allithiamine (Thiamine Allyl Disulfide)

Thiamine allyl disulfide

Allithiamine (CAS 554-44-9) is thiamine allyl disulfide, a synthetic open-ring (thiol-form) thiamine derivative with the molecular formula C15H22N4O2S2 and a molecular weight of 354.49. It is manufactured by chemical synthesis and standardised at typically 98% or higher; the thiazole ring is opened and the resulting thiol is joined through a disulfide bond to an allyl group. This makes it lipid-soluble rather than water-soluble like thiamine hydrochloride and mononitrate, and it is the prototype of the allyl-disulfide class first identified in garlic. It differs from fursultiamine, which carries a tetrahydrofurfuryl group on the same disulfide linkage, and from benfotiamine, an S-acyl phosphate, by its simple allyl substituent. It is supplied in powder form, and we manufacture it in capsule, tablet and powder formats.
