Horsetail Silica

Horsetail silica (Equisetum arvense, silicon dioxide)

Horsetail silica is a plant-derived silicon source prepared from the horsetail plant, Equisetum arvense, in which the active component is silica, silicon dioxide (SiO2, CAS 7631-86-9). It is supplied as a standardised botanical extract rather than a single defined compound, with grades standardised to a declared silica content, commonly around 7%. As a plant silica it is distinct from the synthetic silicate salts and the soluble orthosilicic-acid preparations. It is a brown to off-white powder manufactured into capsules, tablets and powder blends.
