Sodium Metasilicate

Sodium metasilicate

Sodium metasilicate is a soluble inorganic sodium silicate (CAS 6834-92-0; Na2SiO3, MW 122.06), commonly supplied as the anhydrous salt or the pentahydrate. On the anhydrous basis it carries about 23% silicon and dissolves to give an alkaline solution, in contrast to the near-neutral orthosilicic acid. As a defined crystalline silicate it is more stable and more concentrated than the free acid, and it is often buffered with organic acids when used as a silicon source. We manufacture it as a white powder or solution for powders, liquids and capsules.
