NSF/ANSI 455-2
The independently audited GMP standard written specifically for dietary supplements.
GMP for Dietary Supplements
What it is
NSF/ANSI 455-2 is an ANSI-accredited consensus standard developed through the NSF Joint Committee on Dietary Supplements. It is the third-party audited form of cGMP for supplements: it incorporates the US FDA 21 CFR Part 111 requirements, layers explicit retailer requirements on top, and is verified on site by NSF auditors.
What it covers
- Identity testing of every incoming component
- Contamination control · heavy metals, microbial, pesticides, residual solvents, mycotoxins
- Allergen control and cross-contamination prevention
- Master manufacturing and batch production records
- Finished-product specifications and release testing
- Complaint handling, recall procedures and environmental monitoring
Why it matters to you
FDA’s 21 CFR 111 is the legal minimum; NSF/ANSI 455-2 is the commercial bar major retailers accept. It is verifiable directly on NSF’s public register, giving your team a concrete external trust point during supplier evaluation.
