Ferrous citrate is the divalent iron salt of citric acid, chemically iron(II) citrate (CAS 23383-11-1; C6H6FeO7, MW 245.95), carrying about 22.7% elemental iron. It is distinct from the trivalent ferric citrate in oxidation state, and as an organic-acid ferrous salt it carries a mid-range iron load, below the fumarate and succinate but above the gluconate. It is a pale-green to grey-green powder manufactured into tablets, capsules and powder blends.
