Ferrous pyrophosphate is the divalent iron salt of pyrophosphoric acid, diiron pyrophosphate (CAS 16037-88-0; Fe2P2O7, MW 285.63), carrying roughly 39% elemental iron. It is water-insoluble, which makes it a colour-stable fortificant that is often micronised or encapsulated to aid dispersion, and it is distinct in oxidation state from the trivalent ferric pyrophosphate already in the range. It is a grey to grey-green powder manufactured into powders, capsules, tablets and liquid dispersions.
