Sucrosomial iron is a branded iron delivery system in which ferric pyrophosphate is encapsulated within a matrix of sucrose esters of fatty acids and phospholipids, so it has no single CAS number, molecular formula or molecular weight. The iron source itself is the inorganic salt ferric pyrophosphate, while the surrounding matrix governs its handling; because most of the mass is the matrix, the elemental iron content of the finished ingredient is low and is standardised per specification rather than fixed by a formula. This encapsulated construction distinguishes it from the plain iron salts and chelates in the family. It is a powder manufactured into capsules, tablets, powders and liquids.
