Ferric orthophosphate is the trivalent iron salt of orthophosphoric acid (CAS 10045-86-0; FePO4, MW 150.82), carrying roughly 37% elemental iron on an anhydrous basis and about 28 to 30% as the dihydrate. As a water-insoluble ferric salt it is prized for colour stability in fortified foods, in contrast to the soluble and more reactive ferrous salts, and it supplies phosphorus alongside iron. It is an off-white to tan powder offered anhydrous or as the dihydrate, manufactured into powders, tablets and capsules.
