Softgels

Softgels are the premium way to deliver oils and liquid-fill formulations, a sealed one-piece shell that masks taste and holds sensitive actives away from light and air.

The softgel is the premium delivery form for oils and lipophilic actives, a one-piece shell sealed around a liquid or semi-liquid fill. Because the fill is fully enclosed, it is held away from light and oxygen from the moment the shell closes, and taste and odour stay locked inside rather than reaching the consumer. Brands reach for it when the active is an oil, an oil-soluble compound or a fat-soluble vitamin that a dry powder cannot carry cleanly, and when a smooth, glossy finish is part of how the product should present on shelf. We fill and seal in a single continuous process, dosing each softgel to the same fill weight so the declared amount stays consistent unit to unit. Gelatin shells come in a range of sizes, shapes and colours, and the fill is matched to the active so a fish oil, an algal oil or an MCT base runs cleanly at volume. It remains the format of choice for omega oils, fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K, and oil-based botanical extracts.

What softgels do well

Oils & lipophilics

The natural home for fish and algal oils, MCT, and fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K. Oils and oil-soluble compounds that a dry format struggles to hold sit stably inside a softgel fill. The shell is matched to the oil, so even viscous or reactive fills run cleanly through the line.

Taste & odour masked

The sealed one-piece shell keeps fishy, bitter or pungent notes inside, where a tablet or an open two-piece capsule would let them through. The consumer swallows the softgel before the fill is ever released, so taste and smell stay out of the experience. That makes it the practical choice for oils that are otherwise hard to take.

Premium, glossy finish

A smooth, glossy shell that reads as a higher-value product on shelf and in the hand. Softgels can be tinted and shaped to a brand’s look, from clear ambers to opaque colours. The finish is consistent across the batch, so the pack looks the same from the first unit to the last.

Easy to swallow

The soft, rounded form slips down more easily than a large compressed tablet, with no hard edges. It suits higher fill volumes that would make a tablet uncomfortably big to swallow. For a daily format, that ease is part of why a routine is easier to keep to.

Protects sensitive actives

Sealed away from light and oxygen, the fill is kept from the exposure that degrades delicate oils over time. That closed environment supports the shelf life of actives that would oxidise in an open format. It is one reason omega oils are so often presented as softgels.

Higher perceived value

A premium format that supports a stronger price position than a plain capsule or tablet. Buyers read the sealed, glossy softgel as a more considered product, which gives a brand room to sit above a commodity line. The format itself does part of the marketing work.
