Phycocyanin (Spirulina Blue)

C-Phycocyanin (phycobiliprotein from Arthrospira/Spirulina)

Phycocyanin is the blue phycobiliprotein pigment (CAS 11016-15-2) extracted from the cyanobacterium Arthrospira, widely known as spirulina. It provides one of the few natural blue colours, is water-soluble and is graded by colour value rather than a single molecular formula or weight because it is a protein-pigment complex. It is brightest at neutral to slightly acidic pH and is heat-sensitive, so it suits cold-processed liquids, gummies and powders; it is distinct from whole spirulina powder, being the isolated blue fraction. It is supplied as a blue powder and manufactured into powders, liquids and gummies.
