L-Carnitine

(3R)-3-hydroxy-4-(trimethylazaniumyl)butanoate

L-Carnitine is the biologically active L-isomer of carnitine (CAS 541-15-1), a quaternary ammonium compound with the molecular formula C7H15NO3 and a molecular weight of 161.20. It is supplied as the free base, also described as the inner salt, at Carnipure-grade purity of at least 97% L-carnitine. As the unsalted base it carries the highest L-carnitine content by mass of any form in this family, whereas the tartrate, fumarate and hydrochloride grades dilute that content with a counter-acid or counter-ion. The material is a crystalline powder that we manufacture into capsules, tablets, powders and liquid formats.
